Traveling, writing and living around the world
I write this post from a point in time where I am emotionally preparing myself for a good bye that has been looming for quite some time now.
I felt that it would only be right to pay a tribute to moments in time that made me grateful for a place that will always have my a piece of my heart. The theme I tried to create this week is reflective of just that – those moments that felt private, those moments when the city wasn’t rough and ugly and crowded.
Forty of more backpackers stood on the deck, our names being called out like we were being assigned teams at recess.
I immediately regretted our decision.
There were constantly whispers about Gili T of the Komodo boat trip from Lombok to Flores, and every so often I would come across a traveler who had done it or known someone who did it or just wanted to give it a try. I heard a million and one “It’s amazing!” remarks, but I heard very little about the actual boat itself.
I feel like I have sort of gone through an awakening in a way in the past few weeks, completely shedding old skin that was doing nothing for me and acting as a protective layer for being alone.
In my photos this week, I wanted to convey a sense of place, because I feel like at the moment I am trying to figure out just that.
There have been loads of crazy travel stories I’ve accumulated and strange things that have happened to me in the six years I’ve been traveling, like that time I drank snake’s blood or that time I saw a decapitated body in the train tracks of Indian or that time I somehow wound up with a Chinese baby in a park in Shanghai (almost died – me not the baby). Everyone has crazy travel stories, and the craziest of my crazy travel stories is probably the time that I my photo ended up in an Indian newspaper.
When I first arrived in Australia last year I was just in time for the Vivid Sydney show, an incredible light display and festival of music and live performances that runs for two weeks through Sydney’s Circuluar Quay.
